It's raining like crazy in Vermont today! All day long...non-stop...heavy, crazy rain. Luckily, I didn't have to go outside at all. Unfortunately, I've had dull sinus pressure all day as a result. So the rain and headache didn't really help motivate me to get out of bed this morning for the 7 AM Morning Momentum Fitness class, but I got up anyway and was once again glad I did. Those early classes just really wake me up and get me out of my morning funks.
After breakfast, I went to my very first Pilates class. This one focused on using the Pilates ring. The class had some difficult moves, but LynnAnn the instructor really focused on showing us the best way to do each move. I can't say it was my favorite, but I did have an exciting milestone in the class. We did a move that I have never, in probably all of my 32 years (unless I was an amazing baby) have been able to do. We laid flat on our backs with our arms above our heads on the ground, holding a ring, and as we brought the ring up over our chests, we sat fully upright. All the while keeping our feet flexed and on the ground. Extremely hard and almost impossible for me...but today I did it on my first try! LynnAnn congratulated me on the move and gave me a high five. :0) It was awesome.
Pilates Ring was followed by Cardio on the Fitball. It was pretty awesome....bouncing around on a ball, but it did get hard because it was in fact 'cardio'. I've been told that it would be a good option for me for when I go home because they work well in small spaces. I will keep working on them and decide if I really do want one and whether or not I will use it at home. For now, it's way fun.
Lunch today was a chicken toastada with a tomato salsa and a salad. Good, as per usual. I then went to a class called, "Whole Grains: What the heck do you do with them?" We got a few handouts and got to see a lot of them and learned that eating the whole grain is best because "Nature is smart" and "Natural is always better." We talked about packaging and to look for the words, "100%" and "Whole" to be right next to each other. So it would say, "100% Whole Wheat Bread" and not "100% of our cereals contain Whole Wheat".
I was then going to attend Water Aerobics, but so many of the Health Professional ladies here this week were going and like 21 people were signed up, so I backed out. That just didn't sound like fun to me. It turns out that it is a good thing I didn't go because the pool was already packed with resort goers who couldn't ski outside because of the rain. Instead, me and a group of kickass ladies played board games during that time.
Snack was followed by a class about the sensations of fitness. We learned about how to identify the five sensations of fitness: flexibility, mobility, strength, agility, and stability. It was a good class because it was built on the foundations of Nia, the dance class I took last week. It's really about listening to what your body needs and responding to it with the sensations above. By the end of the class, I felt really loose and great. My body needed some really good stretching and flexibility.
Dinner tonight was a white fish with panko crumbs, quinoa, and pea pods. And because Tuesday is baked goods night, we got Chocolate Zucchini Cake! It was so moist and chocolatey and delicious. They teach to have the food you want and then to let it go. I don't know....I'm still thinking about that cake! I wish they would have it again tomorrow.
Do you get recipes for all these things?
ReplyDeleteThere is a booklet in the dining room that says where we can get the recipes. Some are in a cookbook we can buy, others are on their online blog. I plan to get many recipes!
ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a good day. I'm behind in my reading, obviously. Sorry. Hope today (Wednesday) was a good day too. What board games did you play?
ReplyDeleteWe've been playing Taboo, Guesstures, and Cranium.
